College Career Summary

Gunner Stockton is the ultimate "homegrown" success story for the Georgia Bulldogs. A local legend from Rabun County, he set nearly every Georgia high school passing record before enrolling at UGA. After patiently waiting behind Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck, Stockton took over the starting job in late 2024 and maintained it through a sensational 2025 campaign.

The 2025 season saw Stockton emerge as a national star. He led Georgia to a Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship victory over Alabama, earning game MVP honors. Stockton became known as the most "clutch" player in the country, completing a staggering 87.5% of his passes in the fourth quarter. He finished the regular season 7th in Heisman voting and enters the College Football Playoff as one of the most efficient dual-threat playmakers in the nation.

NFL Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Unbelievable Toughness: Stockton plays with a "linebacker" mentality. He thrives under pressure and is willing to lower his shoulder to gain tough yards in the red zone.

  • Red Zone Efficiency: He is a clinical finisher. His combination of quick-release passing and power rushing (8 TDs) makes the Bulldogs nearly unstoppable inside the 20.

  • Elite Decision Making: With only 5 interceptions on 355 attempts in 2025, his ability to protect the ball while remaining aggressive is pro-level.

  • Fourth Quarter Poise: Statistics back up the "clutch" narrative; he almost never misses a throw when the game is on the line in the final period.

Weaknesses

  • Average Height: At 6'1", he doesn't have the prototypical "tall" frame of a pocket passer, which leads to occasional vision issues in a crowded pocket.

  • Arm Strength Ceiling: While he throws a "near-perfect" deep ball with touch, scouts question if he has the elite "zip" to drive out-routes into narrow NFL windows.

  • System Product?: Some scouts wonder how much of his 70% completion rate is due to Mike Bobo’s QB-friendly scheme and Georgia’s elite offensive line.

  • Pro-Style Transition: Despite his high IQ, he will need to prove he can operate a high-volume passing attack if the running game is neutralized.

Scheme Fit

  • Primary Fit: West Coast / RPO Hybrid. He is an ideal fit for a system that values mobility and intermediate accuracy, similar to the Miami Dolphins or Brock Purdy’s role with the 49ers.

Scout's Final Word

"Gunner Stockton is a winner, period. He lacks the 'alien' physical traits of some 1st-rounders, but his 2025 tape is undeniably productive. He is a high-floor prospect who projects as a Round 3–5 pick if he declares, though another year at Georgia could push him into Day 2 territory. He has a 'Stetson Bennett ceiling' with significantly more raw arm talent."
