2025 NFL RB PROSPECTS

RB1/ ASHTON JEANTY/ BOISE STATE/ 5"9/ 215 lbs/ TOP 10

Pros: Break tackle, contact balance, break away speed, acceleration

Cons: Pass pro, fumbles, between tackles, 3 down back?

Archetype: Speed

Comparison: Maurice Jones-Drew

Scouting Report: Jeanty is a very special player. He had a record breaking career, yet is an extremely humble guy off the field. He has big play speed and acceleration through the line, the ball carrier vision to find holes, and the ability to stay on his feet with incredible contact balance. He flashes the ability to be a three down back with his pass catching ability as well. His main issues of concern are: high tread on tires (720 in 3 seasons), pass pro, and can struggle in between the tackles at times. He’s on the smaller side, but height is not a huge concern with the RB position. Ultimately I like him as a mid to late 1st round pick, and if he tears it up at the combine and passes all the physicals, he can sneak into the top 10.

RB2/ QUINSHON JUDKINS/ OHIO STATE/ 6"0/ 219 lbs/ MID 1ST

Pros: Strong runner, acceleration, durability, awareness, vision

Cons: Break tackle, pass block, catching

Archetype: 3 Down

Comparison: Ezekiel Elliot

Scouting Report: Judkins split time in the Ohio State Backfield so his numbers aren’t amazing, however watching his film he demonstrates elite qualities in a NFL back. He is a strong runner who isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder, but he can also change direction and use his elite ball carrier vision to find the holes in defenses. He also has good ball security, stamina, and a clear injury history to be a RB1. He sometimes has trouble breaking tackles inside the box, his pass blocking skills are a mystery, and while he can catch out of the backfield, it is not his strength. I like Judkins as a 1st round back as 1B to Ashton Jeantys 1A.

RB3/ DEVIN NEAL/ KANSAS/ 5"11/ 215 LBS/ MID 1ST
Pros: Vision, agility, change of direction, break tackle

Cons: Power, personality, scheme specific

Archetype:3 Down

Comparison: LeSean McCoy

Scouting Report: Devin Neal is a human joystick that isn't getting the love he deserves around NFL draft boards. He has the ability to do great things with the football. His elusivenss is something I haven't see in a while. His biggest questions to me is his animated personality on the field may cause some yellow flags to be thrown. I think Devin Neal is worth a 2nd look and one of the best RBs in this class.

RB4/ OMARION HAMPTON/ UNC/ 6"0/ 220 lbs/ EARLY 2ND
Pros: Patient, tough runner, physical, size, catching
,
Cons: Stiff hips, lacks elite speed, runs into mess

Archetype: Power

Comparison: Zach Charbonnett

Scouting Report: Omarion Hampton is a good looking RB that brings a down hill running style to an offense. He has great size, strength and acceleration to break through tackles. He is a viable receiving option, and shows promise as a pass blocker, making him a potential 3 down back. He doesn’t have that elite speed you look for at the NFL level, but his acceleration and long strides make up for that in the open space. His hips are tight making him not the most elusive back and his vision can get cloudy at times. Ultimately, I think Omarion Hampton is a solid RB prospect in this class and would fall in the later 1st or possibly day 2 based on his tape.

RB5/ TREYVEON HENDERSON/ OHIO STATE/ 5"10/ 208 lbs/ EARLY 2ND
Pros: Pass block, ball security, intangibles, awareness

Cons: injury history, durability, change of direction

Archetype: 3 Down

Comparison: Lamar Miller

Scouting Report: Henderson is a north and south runner with a little bit of wiggle sprinkled on top. He is the definition of a 3 down back; he runs hard, catches out of the backfield and is the best pass blocking RB I have seen so far. His biggest concern will be passing his physicals and being healthy on the football field. If he does that he will have a really good chance to make an impact in the relatively short careers of NFL Running Backs. He should be picked up in the 2nd round or when a run on RBs starts happening later in the Draft.

RB6/ RJ HARVEY/ UCF/ 5"9/ 208 LBS/ MID 2ND
Pros: Speed and Acceleration, vision, change of direction and movement

Cons: Ball security, Run Strength, Scat back,

Archetype: Speed

Comparison: Ray Rice

Scouting Report: RJ Harvey might be small, but man is he fast. His ability to accelerate to the outside is and he has the long speed to take big runs to the house. He might be the most elusive back next to Devin Neal with his highlight reel plays. He shows good potential as a receiver too. The biggest weakness in his game is running between the tackles. He just doesn’t have the power or frame to be a power back. He also struggles with fumbles and his pass blocking is an enigma. Overall I like the big play potential and athletic traits of RJ Harvey and view him as a third down back that can come in and change of pace for the offense. He’s a day two pick in my opinion.

RB7/ CAMERON SKATTEBO/ ASU/ 5"11/ 215 lbs/ LATE 2ND
Pros: Runs hard, Catching, Stamina, Competitor

Cons: Speed, acceleration, lack of home run threat

Archetype: Power
Comparison: Rex Burkhead

Scouting Report: Cam Skattebo is the hardest runner you will see carry the ball. He always falls forward and always keeps his legs churning, leading to many broken tackles. He has decent size, is a strong pass catching RB, and has demonstrated a high level of agility at the back. The biggest knock against him is his below average speed and acceleration. He can get you 5 to 10 yards a pop, but he doesn’t break many big runs which is concerning. A true fan favorite back after his performance against Texas, Skattebo, like any RB, will thrive in a zone run system with a good offensive line. He is a day two prospect in my opinion, but I can see a lackluster combine really hurting his draft stock and potentially push him into the 3rd round or later.

RB8/ KALEB JOHNSON/ IOWA/ 6"0/ 225 lbs/ EARLY 3RD
Pros: Keeps feet moving, break tackle, size, acceleration, ball security

Cons: Lacks aggression, cloudy vision, awareness, lacks elusiveness

Archetype: Power

Comparison: Antonio Gibbs

Scouting Report: Kaleb Johnson is a great value RB. He has good size and speed that allows him to break tackles inside and outside the box. He has good stamina, since he saw over 230 carries this year. He has decent hands and upside as a check down in the passing game. Where he needs to develop is his pass blocking (non existent), cloudy vision at times and despite being a good athlete, he isn’t really elusive enough to be considered a speed back. If a team is looking for a great number two option or potential starter, Kaleb Johnson would be a great fit in a down hill zone scheme. He isn’t a first round guy, but he would be a great pick up on day two.

RB9/ DYLAN SAMPSON/ TENN/ 5"11/ 201 LBS/ MID 3RD
Pros: Physical Runner, Vision,

Cons: Fumbles, blocking, weight

Archetype: 3 Down

Comparison: Kerryon Johnson

Scouting Report: Dylan Samspon was a productive back in the SEC conference. He did well against Alabama and Georgia, breaking out for 100 plus games for each of them. He has good height, but a smaller weight. He also is a high IQ player that can find the hole and lower his shoulder to gain as many yards as he can. He is limited as a blocker, but he shows willingness despite not having great technique. He can catch out the backfield, but his primary role will be running in between the tackles and occasionally bouncing outside for a solid gain. He is a good back up that can fit in and carry the rock at a productive rate right now, but he won’t break any rookie rushing records.
RB10 OLLIE GORDON II/ OK STATE/ 6"2/ 225 LBS/ MID 3RD
Pros: Looks the Part, Durability

Cons: Slow, doesn’t break Tackles, not elusive,

Archetype: Power

Comparison: Matt Forte

Scouting Report: Has the size and some decent change of direction, and acceleration. Other than that he lacks speed, physicality, and doesn't break tackles. Not impressed. He might have a role as a goal line back or short yardage packages, but While he looks like Tarzan he plays like Jane. He could find better production and success in a power run system with a great run blocking o line.
