Position: Defensive End / Defensive Lineman | School: Alabama (via Texas A&M)

Class: Senior | Height: 6'5" | Weight: 278 lbs | Archetype: Balance

College Career Summary

L.T. Overton entered the college ranks as a "Five-Star Plus+" recruit and one of the most decorated defensive prospects in the 2022 class. He spent his first two seasons at Texas A&M, where he was often asked to play as a lighter, stand-up edge rusher. Seeking a role that better suited his natural power, he transferred to Alabama for the 2024 season and immediately transformed his frame, adding nearly 30 pounds of "good weight." In Tuscaloosa, he blossomed into a versatile, hand-in-the-dirt defender capable of playing as a 5-technique or sliding inside. His 2025 campaign was his most consistent, marked by a significant jump in pressures and a role as a primary tone-setter for the Crimson Tide's defensive front.

Scouting Report

Strengths

  • Massive Frame & Reach: At 6'5" and nearly 280 lbs, he possesses elite length that allows him to lock out offensive tackles and control the line of scrimmage.

  • Technical Growth: Since arriving at Alabama, his Technique has skyrocketed. He uses a violent two-hand swipe and a powerful bull-rush that converts speed-to-power effortlessly.

  • Positional Versatility: He is a "tweener" in the best way. He has the Speed to rush from the edge but the Strength to slide inside to 3-tech on passing downs.

  • Run Defense Anchor: He is a plus defender in short-yardage situations, rarely giving up ground and consistently shedding blocks with his heavy hands.

Weaknesses

  • Lateral Agility: While explosive forward, he can look a bit stiff when asked to change direction or chase down speedier "scramble" quarterbacks.

  • Pass Rush Polish: He still relies heavily on his "fastball" (power). He needs to develop more consistent counter-moves when his initial punch is parried.

  • Lower Body Flexibility: Occasionally plays too high, allowing interior linemen to get under his pads and win the leverage battle.

Scheme Fit: Ideal 3-4 Defensive End (5-Tech) or a 4-3 Power End.

NFL Comparison: Zach Harrison (Falcons) / Denico Autry

Scout’s Final Word & Projection

Intangibles: 18/20 | Physical Tools: 19/20 | Attributes: 17/20 | Athleticism: 16/20 | IQ: 17/20

Final Grade: 87/100

L.T. Overton is a "traits-first" prospect whose on-field production finally caught up to his five-star billing during his senior year at Alabama. While he may not be a 12-sack-per-season speed burner, he is a physical specimen who provides high Star impact as a run defender and a versatile interior rusher. His unselfishness and ability to play multiple roles across the line will make him a favorite for defensive coordinators who run hybrid schemes. He is a high-floor starter with "10-year pro" written all over him.

Draft Projection: 2nd Round (Late 1st Round Potential)
